"Lofty Mountains and Flowing Water": Chu-style Lacquerware and Lacquer Art Innovation Exhibition opens in Beijing

"Lofty Mountains and Flowing Water": Chu-style Lacquerware and Lacquer Art Innovation Exhibition opened at the Prince Kung's Palace Museum under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) on October 18. Wang Chenyang, Director of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage, MCT; Curator Feng Naien and Deputy Curator Wang Jing of the Prince Kung's Palace Museum; Lu Xiaobo, Dean of the Academy of Art & Design, Tsinghua University; and Liu Huiping, Member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee attended the opening ceremony.

The exhibition demonstrated the unique charm of Chu-style lacquerware, an iconic national intangible cultural heritage item, Wang said, hoping that the traditional craft will be inherited and preserved to be better integrated into the modern life.

In recent years, Jingzhou has made great progress in inheriting and developing lacquer art and rejuvenating traditional crafts, marching towards the goal of developing into a Chinese city of lacquer art, Liu said. Jingzhou will preserve, inherit and develop culture in accordance with higher standards, tap cultural features and advantages, plan and implement key culture & tourism projects, so as to create a whole culture & tourism industry chain.

Hosted by the Prince Kung's Palace Museum, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hubei Province and the Jingzhou Municipal People's Government, organized by the Jingzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Traditional Craft Workstation of the Academy of Art & Design, Tsinghua University in Jingzhou and Changjiang Polytechnic of Art and Engineering, the exhibition, with the theme "Lofty Mountains and Flowing Water", demonstrated the charm of lacquerware and lacquer art in three sectors: "Origin", "Crafts" and "Works". It will run till November 18.
